No place on earth is more anonymous than the internet. While this is generally experienced as an advantage, there are also many drawbacks, as there are no physical authorities to keep order.

The notorious DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is probably the most well known example of the drawbacks of the anonimity on the internet. A DDoS attack is an event during which (usually) thousands of computers make a connection to a server (or network device), with the purpose to overload it. The computers involved in such an attack are usually hacked or infected by a virus/trojan without that the owner of the computer is aware of that.

Small attacks usually only affect the server which is being attack, but large attacks can also affect network segments. It is critical to ensure that a network is protected from such large attacks.


Filtering packets is a very complicated process, particularly due to the fact that an attacker will try to make the packets of an attack look like legitimate traffic. With the naked eye it will be impossible to distinguish malicious packets from legtimate traffic. We use Cisco Guard technology to filter all traffic passing through our network, which is able to recognize malicious traffic patterns. When it detects an attack, the Cisco Guards divert traffic destined for the targeted site and process the flows with sophisticated filtering, anomaly recognition, and protocol analysis to identify and block the attack while forwarding legitimate traffic to its destination.

Apart from protecting our network from external attacks, we are also making sure that all servers on the network itself are secure. Since we are a managed solution provider, we will assist all customers with the security hardening of their server. Should a security compromise still occur, we are standing by 24/7 to identify and solve the problem. Apart from making sure that customer data is secure, this also prevents problems that could be caused by a compromised server on the network.
